Make me over

It was inevitable, but I never thought it'd happen so soon. My darling daughter is 9 weeks and I already feel like the frumpy mom. On Sunday we were all complimenting my mom on how cute her sweater was and I mentioned that my mom is more stylish than I am. "Always have been," was her response. And while it's true, this statement has been haunting me ever since. When I get dressed, I don't feel cute. I look at my closet and dread getting ready because I pretty much hate everything I have. I would love to add a few new pieces to my wardrobe, but I have no idea where to start. As in, I have no idea what's even in style. Now I know this post is sounding so shallow and worldly, but I am writing it as a plea to those reading to help a sister out. Where can I find cute clothes that aren't going to drain my bank account?

Ann Taylor Loft is one of my favorite places (and it is affordable too!). Of course, I don't believe for one minute that you could ever be frumpy (even if you tried), but trust me, I COMPLETELY understand how you are feeling. Good luck and have fun shopping!!!

Amen, Sister.

I still love platos. Cute clothes, usually hardly worn (cuz rich girls get new stuff every season!) and for sure trendy. Saw some Sevens there last week.

My friend has a great fashion blog. It's nomoremomjeans.bloodspot.com. She is great and so funny too. If the blog address is wrong just Google No more mom jeans. It should come up.

I wish I had advice for you, Jessie but I'm in the same boat. I feel like such a frump most days. I'm stranded at home without a car most of the time so it hardly seems with the effort. I didn't want to invest a bunch of money into nursing clothes (besides bras) so I end up wearing loose clothes/pjs most of the day because it's easier for nursing/pumping. And then of course the post-baby body means clothes fit a little differently now. It's an awkward stage to be in! Sorry I don't have any advice but wanted you to know you aren't alone!

I felt the same way. (Some days I still do.) What I did was learn patience with my body. It takes a little while for your body to readjust. While most of the weight falls off with breastfeeding your body is still out of shape from carry a baby for nine months. The next thing I did was go buy a couple of shirts from Old Navy (The sales rack is great!). I bought shirts with loose styles that made me feel good about myself. Next I made sure I got out and did something active, like a half an hour walk with Sydney. I wasn't burning major calories, but it was exercise and I got some serious endorphins flowing. Keep smiling!!! Body image and style slowly return. You won't feel so frumpy!

I've always thought you looked so cute, so I don't believe you could look frumpy. However, I understand completely how you feel, and I don't even have kids. But since I stopped working and I'm home a lot, I just ended up putting minimal effort into getting "all dolled up." When it finally occurred to me that I couldn't remember when I last used a hair dryer, and I started worrying that my pierced ears were closing up from the lack of wearing earrings, I decided to just take the time to do my hair and add jewelry. And I bought a new pair of high heels at Kohl's and felt much better. :)

(And don't let your mom's comments haunt you. That was obviously rude to say to you.)

I second Ann Taylor Loft - never shopped there before, but my step-mom gave me some clothes for Christmas, and I've gotten so many compliments on them!
My favorite place to shop for new clothes is Target :) Not too spendy, and VERY cute!
