Last Day

Today is my last day at work. I got laid off this past Thursday. Ad sales have been down, and with the rising cost of postage, paper, etc. the company has been making budget cuts everywhere. First, it was the cleaners ... now me. I've been working hard trying to get all the loose ends tied up so my co-workers won't have too rough of a time taking over my duties. I've been trying to not think about it, but tomorrow is going to be strange. To wake up and not go to work. To not carpool with Jason. To not take pictures for, write and coordinate the women in business profiles. To not answer customers subscription questions. To not laugh with my coworkers. It's all over, and I'm not sure I'm ready for it to end.

I know everything is going to be OK, and luckily Jason has a great job so it doesn't throw us into instant financial straights, but I would like to get a job eventually. I've had some great suggestions already (thanks Audrey!) but what are your thoughts? Anyone know of an amazing job available with great pay and benefits too? Or should I just pursue my photography business full-force?

Sorry to hear the lame news about the lay-off! That is awful. It stinks how many people I know/hear about in that situation. This economy sucks.

I think you should pursue photography--you're so great at it!

Hey...this is Katie, I was in some of your comms classes. (Yes, I'm a blog lurker!) That really sucks about the job. Not a good time for the journalism industry, or any industry for that matter.

But I wanted to let you know a cousin of mine is moving and her job is opening up. She worked as a copyeditor/editor at Provo Craft. Here's a link if you want to check it out: http://www.provocraft.com/careers/index.php?cid=196

Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about the lay off. I vote for you to pursue your photography. You have a real talent and it would be a shame for you not to pursue it. Good luck!

Jessie,

I'm so sorry to hear about the job, I had no idea. This economy is really crummy, it makes me nervous.

I say you try your photo business full-time. I've really enjoyed working for myself.

That...is lame. I say you let me teach you InDesign and then you choose either job direction, but you can do so with a leg up! You're amazing, don't let it get you down.

I can sympathize with the job hunt, though. It bites. We should be friends. =)

all i know girl is "oh the places you'll go!" your amazing and of course you will be ok. think about what i said because i really think that you would do well with it, maybe focus on getting it going while you have some time but still get another job until it takes off cause i know it will with your mind behind the words!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I wish I had some great job opportunities to tell you about but I'm kind of out of the "loop". You definitely have a future in photography, though!

Whatever you do Jess, you will succeed, because you always have!

i'm sorry jess! that's too bad, but you never know maybe it will push you to go somewhere better that before you wouldn't have had the opportunity. now you just need to decide where you want to be pushed ;)

Jessie, so sorry about the job. That really stinks. I'm sure the right thing will come along and you will make the right decision. And, you know, St. Louis is fun too... seriously, though, I love you and I'm thinking about you. Mark sends his love as well.

I'm sorry ((hugs))

I picked up that publication when I arrived and was happy to see your name.

But... you can be a really cute domestic housewife right now! Haha!
