The Words We Eat

Let's play a game. I'll say a phrase, you fill in the blank.

"When I'm a parent I will never _________"

(for those of you blessed with the walking messes known as "children" you can still play too, just think back to the gold days when you were a perfect parent - before you had children.)

Wanna hear mine? I have many, but for the purpose of this post I'll limit it to two.

"When I'm a parent, I will never let a sleep schedule dictate my life."

Hi, my name is Jessie and nap time is 10 and 1:30, bed time is 7:00. Don't mess with the schedule or I will mess with you. Seriously.

"When I'm a parent, I will never let my child make messes of meals. So gross."

Hi, meet Norah:

Some days we just give up on bibs, it's much easier to strip her down then hose her off when she's done.

What are some of the things you swore you'd never do as a parent, yet you now find yourself doing?

A-freakin-men.

There are so many things we judge before (and while) we are parents, but realize later why they might be a good idea. Parenting is humbling like that!

Oh, and I am totally a sleep nazi too. Clay and I were talking about if we regretted being so strict with Ellie's naps and bedtimes (especially for the first year) but we don't because we have a baby who sleeps like a dream. As a result, we are ALL happier and healthier. I won't trade that for anything.

haha this is so funny! Great post! I still stay that "I will teach my kids to always wash their hands after going to the bathroom and to never pee on the toilet seat." Still waiting to see how that turns out.

too many to count.. but i hate hate hate messy kids and sand. Ug. I'm jealous of your 7pm bedtime though! I'm trying to get lucy to go to bed earlier as it's getting darker sooner- here's to hoping it works!

haha!!! Man oh man is this post so true! Nice one. I swore I would never take my baby out in public in his PJ's. Some days it just doesn't seem worth changing his perfectly clean, comfy outfit. He still naps for 8 hours of the day anyways. You're great, Jessie!
